Answers to frequently asked
questions about making a move
Here are some answers to questions we frequently hear about the retirement downsizing process.
When is the right time to move?
We hear it all the time. People think they are too young to move to a retirement community. But once residents take the leap and join our luxurious community, they not only love it here but often wish they’d made the decision years earlier. We invite you to come for a visit and meet some of our active, engaged residents. You’ll realize that we’re constantly on the move here, and that you could find yourself enjoying life more than you have for years.
Should I take on a retirement relocation or stay in the same city?
Before you decide whether to move or stay in the city where you may have lived for years, ask yourself: What is most important to you? Do you want to be near family and friends? Do you prefer the city or the country? Do you want to stay in a familiar area, or strike out for someplace new? At Moldaw, you can live in the heart of it all. Our central location puts us near all of the cultural attractions of the Bay Area, and the shopping, dining and parks of Palo Alto are within walking distance. Best of all, our unique intergenerational community is located on the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life, with the vOshman Family Jewish Community Center, Schultz Cultural Arts Hall, fitness center with pools and an award-winning preschool right in our town center.
How do I actually make the move?
How should I look for a retirement community?
Will I be able to afford a retirement community?
How do I start the conversation with my family?
The key here is to start early – and to have several conversations. Whether you’re looking for a community for yourself or for a family member, you’ll want to keep in mind that the other person or people may take some time to adjust to the idea. If you’re helping a family member find a new place to live, it’s also good to keep in mind that they need to be involved in the decision and stay in control of the situation. If it’s your children you’re talking to about the move, you may want to have them visit the community. When family members visit Moldaw, with its unique intergenerational campus, restaurant-style dining, world-class performance center, fitness center, pools and convenient location, they love our community and enthusiastically become involved.
What level of care do I or my parent need?
When deciding what level of care is right for you or a loved one, we recommend that you and your family member make an appointment to come in for a visit. One of our representatives can walk you through some questions, give you a tour of our remarkable campus, and help determine which of our residential options would be the best fit.
