Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Life Plan Community?

A Life Plan Community offers its residents different levels of care. For years, the traditional name for this type of retirement community offering has been a Continuing Care Retirement Community or CCRC. It was thought that the term Life Plan Community more accurately described what these communities offer. For residents, it's not just about receiving care. It's about actively making plans. By moving to our high-end retirement community, you're planning your future — a future filled with lively, fascinating people who share your interests and inspire you every day and where your smart financial decisions will leave a legacy for your children.

How should I look for a retirement community?

One of the best ways to get to know a community is by visiting their campus. At Moldaw, you'll find some unique advantages you won't find at other retirement communities. We're located on the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life, adjacent to the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center. We invite you to visit and see our unique intergenerational and multicultural offerings, from our Cultural Arts Hall to a fitness center just steps away from your beautiful residence.

Should I relocate or stay in the same area?

Before you decide whether to move or stay in the city where you may have lived for years, ask yourself: What is most important to you? Do you want to be near family and friends? Do you prefer the city or the country? Do you want to stay in a familiar area or strike out for someplace new? At Moldaw, you can live in the heart of it all. Our central location puts us near all of the cultural attractions of the Bay Area, and the shopping, dining, and parks of Palo Alto are within walking distance.

Will I be able to afford a retirement community?

You may be surprised at how affordable retirement community living can be. Instead of paying all the costs associated with your home, from maintenance to utilities, you pay one monthly fee that covers virtually all your expenses. If you're concerned about finances, you can also look into the Below Market Rate Housing Program, which allows you to enjoy the vibrant Moldaw lifestyle at a lower cost. You'll also want to remember that the Moldaw entrance fee is 85% refundable, so by moving here, you've made smart financial plans that will leave a legacy for future generations.

When is the right time to move?

We hear it all the time. People think they are too young to move to a retirement community. But once residents take the leap and join our luxurious community, they not only love it here but often wish they'd made the decision years earlier. We invite you to visit and meet some of our active, engaged residents. You'll realize that we're constantly on the move here and that you could enjoy life more than you have for years.

How do I make the move?

When you've lived in a home for 20, 30, or 40 years, there are many things to do, from downsizing your belongings to putting your house on the market. At Moldaw, we're here to help make the process seamless and easy. We have partnerships with trusted downsizing consultants who can coordinate all the parts and pieces, from deciding what to take with you to getting the best price for your home.
